okay so i used to be a straight up asshole back in 11th grade. not like “haha you’re a queer suck it you fuckface” sort of asshole, but a “i have no filter as to what i say”, so if the Joey Bradfield verbal abuse train started rolling, it was hard to stop

and for the most part I’ve gotten a lot better at controlling it

but there are some days when i just become this really cynical, sarcastic bastard, and today was one of those days

see I hate the grocery store. It reminds me of everything I hate about American culture. it’s excessive, shit gets bought and actual food doesn’t. for example, when I went to the store today, fruit was buy one get one free, and so was soda. the fruit was plentiful, and the apples crisp and ready to be eaten. the soda however all gone.

it’s easy to see why I get so cynical about this country

Anyway, so I bought my food (actual food), and when I get home I start unloading the groceries my sister Meredith comes downstairs. Now, I love my sister to death, but my sister is a pig. She eats shit for food, and ignores the actual food with nutritive content. Me, as her brother, have tried many many times to help her out and she just doesn’t want the help.

So she comes downstairs, really pissy, and starts complaining “Why didn’t you get anything that I want? All of this stuff will go bad anyway”

I pause for a second, my 11th grade self rises up from the ashes, I look at her and say: “Well Meredith, if I would have bought the food you like to eat, it would be gone in about 30 minutes”

and she got so mad, and I don’t even care. I’m tired of trying to help people who don’t want to be helped. She can eat more shit for all I care at this point.

The best thing though? I’m not even in a bad mood. I’m figuring out what I can make with the Brussels sprouts I bought. dinner tonight should be good.

50 years ago, at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, second-in-command Vasilli Arkhipov of the Soviet submarine B-59 refused to agree with his Captain’s order to launch nuclear torpedos against US warships and setting off what might well have been a terminal superpower nuclear war.

The US had been dropping depth charges near the submarine in an attempt to force it to surface, unaware it was carrying nuclear arms. The Soviet officers, who had lost radio contact with Moscow, concluded that World War 3 had begun, and 2 of the officers agreed to ‘blast the warships out of the water’. Arkhipov refused to agree – unanimous consent of 3 officers was required and thanks to him, the world was saved from being scarred badly.

His story is finally being told the BBC is airing a documentary on it.
